Problems, Bugs and Quirks

This page contains a list of known potential problems regarding the playing of the MIDI files used in this course.

Set-up Your Browser for MIDI

All of the standard modern browsers (internet explorer, netscape, mozilla, opera, firefox, safari, etc,) should be workable for this class.

You must have your browser properly set-up to play MIDI files before the files will be loaded and played over the Web. Many times the browser is already configured properly from the start. Try out the 'Open MIDI file' link below and cross your fingers.

Open MIDI file <----
Did it work? ... Yes? ... Lucky You.

No? ... I'm sorry, I feel so bad.

You will need to check the MIDI setup in your browser.

The most common ways to play MIDI files is using quicktime or window media player.
Here are links to Apple's Quicktime site. (Free Plugin)
You can then download (save) a copy of the desired plugin. The plugin is available for both Mac and Windows platforms
Also a link to window media player download page is listed.

Still having trouble playing the MIDI files?

E-mail the instructor, mikesult@guitarland.com

Tell me specifically where in the course material the MIDI file was that you were trying to access (i.e. 'I can't play the MIDI files in Lecture 1', or 'I can't play any of the MIDI examples from the textbook'.). I will try to modify the files when appropriate and rectify the problem as best I can.
