I like the way pro golfers get paid. The best player gets paid the most, but just because one player is great doesn't mean someone else can't be just as great. If they have a bad day it's possible to make it up before the week is finished. If they were a tennis player and had a bad day, tough, they're out in the first round. But it's more fair for the golfer. Redemption can be good. And they have to stay on their game week after week. Meritocracy I wonder if we could create a society where we were paid like golfers, on our merit. Of course pro golfers are a super elite group. There's another super elite group I think of. I'm always puzzled when I read about big time capitalist CEOs of faltering companies who get paid 10's (sometime 100's) of millions of dollars, and then get year-end bonuses in huge proportions right after they layoff 20% of the employees. Shouldn't they get docked a little penalty for being bad at their job? In the tournament of capitalism they are not winning. But they get paid as if they are winning. Why is it done that way? Who's running that tournament? That's why I don't really like mega-capitalism. It's not anything like golf. |
