The music theory content can be found at Music Fundamentals on the Web.

The page is focused on the rhythmic element. We will stay on the note C and mostly work on the durations, dotted notes, rests, tied notes and triplets.

Assignment 4

This assignment is to write out the durations of 1 whole, 2 half notes, 4 quarter notes, 8 eighth notes and 16 sixteenth notes all on the pitch of C. It is already completed for you and the result is shown in the lilypond note entry field (scroll down and click 'Play'). Examine the code to be sure you understand how it works. Copy the lilypond note code into your course lilypond file (and save). Now copy the lilypond score in the lower text area of this page and paste it into your course lilypond file (and save). rhythms on the note C
Type your code into the lilypond note entry field to transcribe the shown rhythms and when finished (click stop then) click Play. Assignment 6

For this assignment we'll introduce ties. Sometimes a note's duration flows past the barline and two notes need to be tied together 'across the barline'. There are several other situations when ties notes are needed to create a specific rhythm. This assignment is to transcribe the opening bars of 'April in Paris' shown in the graphic below. You need to add the notes and the duration numbers that are needed. Both triplets and ties are used.
